Infinix is stepping way outside the box with its upcoming flagship, the Infinix Note 50s 5G Plus, and it’s not just about faster chips or better cameras this time. Earlier today, the company teased a never-before-seen feature in smartphones “Energizing scent-tech.” Yep, a phone that smells good literally.
Slated for launch on April 18, the Note 50s 5G+ brings with it all the expected bells and whistles of the Note 50 series sleek design, likely some solid performance chops, and 5G connectivity. But what’s really turning heads is its fragrance-emitting rear panel.
Infinix has embedded what it calls microencapsulation technology into the faux leather back of the phone. Think of it like a perfume capsule tiny scent particles are trapped in microscopic pores and released gradually over time. It’s designed to subtly freshen the air around you with a blend of marine and lemon top notes, a floral heart of lily of the valley, and deeper amber and vetiver base notes. Basically, your phone could smell like a luxury perfume bottle!

The scent isn’t permanent though. Depending on things like temperature, humidity, and how often you handle the phone, the fragrance is expected to last around six months, a decent run for what’s essentially a passive aromatic feature. Once it fades, it’s unclear if users will be able to “refill” or recharge the scent, but we wouldn’t be surprised if accessories or refills become a thing in future models.
For now, the scent-tech will only be available in the Marine Drift Blue color variant clearly meant to stand out. If you’re not into fragrant phones, Infinix will also offer Titanium Grey and Ruby Red options without the scent.
As for specs? Infinix is keeping those under wraps for now, but given the timing and lineup positioning, expect mid-to-upper range internals, possibly a Dimensity 700 or 800 series chipset, at least 8GB RAM, and a 120Hz AMOLED display if previous Note models are anything to go by. Infinix has also been pushing fast charging and big batteries lately, so a 5000mAh cell with 45W or higher charging support could be in the cards.
The idea of a scented smartphone is definitely bold, some might call it gimmicky, others might find it refreshing (pun intended). But whether it’s a hit or a miss, Infinix is clearly taking risks and trying to stand out in a crowded market, and that alone is worth watching.
More details, including pricing and full specs, are expected to drop at the official launch on April 18, so stay tuned for a deeper dive. Who knows, this might just be the beginning of a whole new “scented tech” trend!
