Google is making a huge revolution to its Home Hubs current week. Thankful to Matter that Google Home Hubs can work locally. But wait a minute. What does it mean that Google Home Hubs can work locally? This means that now you can control smart devices locally. This has a big benefit because when you control the device locally, it lags less when you ask Google to control the device.
This week, Google has officially announced that it has added full local control of matter devices to its Google Home Hub. Google has done it by combining the Home Runtime. This means that Google Nest Hub, Chromecasts, Google TV devices can connect and control the devices locally.
What is a Matter?
Matter is a smart home communication standard that is designed to offer a common language for connected devices to communicate locally. Its main benefit is that you do not have to depend on cloud connection. This standard is designed to be secure, private, easy to set up and compatible.
Matter is an open sourced, IP-based connectivity software layer for smart home devices which has been developed by Apple, Amazon, Samsung, Google and others. This works with Wi-Fi, Ethernet and low power mesh networking protocol thread. This software layer currently supports most of the main device types in the home.
A smart home gadget which features the Matter logo can be set up and operated by any matter compatible ecosystem through using Matter controller. Moreover, this supports multi-admin functionality that can be controlled by multiple ecosystems.
Amazon Alexa, Google Homes, Samsung SmartThings and Apple Home are some big platforms that support Matter with several device manufacturers.

Benefit of Locally Controlling Devices
With this step, Google has brought a huge revolution in these platforms. Previously, these devices depended on cloud connectivity for device control. If your internet is not working well, then you can order Google Assistance to turn on the light. Google Assistance is now able to follow your commands.
In their recent details, Google has also shared more details for helping the developers to make more products that are capable of working with Matter. These details also included working with Connectivity Standards Alliance to make the Matter devices easier. Moreover this also includes partnering with MediaTek to build a new chip that includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LE and Thread. The Senior Engineering Director Matt Van Der Staay writes, “This should make it easier and affordable for device OEMs to build Thread into all their new products.”
Google is opening its home APIs to all developers. This enables the developers to combine Google Home Devices and automation into their own apps. This feature helps them to focus on their resources on building devices instead of combinations.
According to the statement of Google, the Home API is consists of following:-
Devices and Structure APIs
Only one single combination can help you in getting access to over 600M devices that are already connected to Google Home. A single united interface can manage and control both cloud connected and Matter devices across Google Home. This allows local control, broad device reach and support for Matter custom clusters.
Commissioning API
This makes the set up easy with Fast Pair on almost 3 billion Android devices. This allows smooth onboarding voice control through Google Assistant. Moreover, it is compatible enough with Google Home Ecosystem.
Automation API
This gives the power to all tools that are required to create and maintain home automations directly on your App. This supports the long signals, commands and Google Specific Ai-driven abilities for personalized and intelligent home experiences.
Conclusion
In short, all of these enable the developers to use the Google Home platform to strengthen their app’s automations and combination with other devices. This process greatly increases the speed of development. Also this helps to launch an app for the Android devices. On the other hand, if Google has not pulled its API Access, developers would be left helpless.
