Meta has finally launched its standalone AI assistant, competing with ChatGPT. You can not only chat with it, but also generate images and get real-time web results. With that being said, the app has introduced an innovative feature, which is known as the “Discover” feed.
The Discover Feed: A Social AI Experience
The Discover feed illustrates how individuals, including your Instagram and Facebook friends, engage with Meta AI. These interactions are shared on a prompt-by-prompt basis. You have the option to like, comment, share, or remix these posts into your creations. Connor Hayes, VP of Product at Meta, explains that the aim is to clarify AI and demonstrate its potential.
AI and Social Media Convergence
Meta is not alone in merging AI with social media. Let’s take a look at an example: Elon Musk’s X platform has integrated Grok, and OpenAI plans to add a social feed to ChatGPT. With this, it is shown that the AI and social media worlds are increasingly overlapping with one another.
Voice Mode Takes Center Stage
A significant aspect of the app is its voice mode. An optional, beta version allows interactions to be more natural and dynamic. While this version resembles ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode, it does not include web access. The voice mode utilizes Meta’s “full-duplex” AI model, facilitating quicker and more engaging conversations. A demonstration showed that this new mode enhances the app’s voice with added personality.
