Google has officially launched its NotebookLM app for both Android and iOS, just ahead of Google I/O 2025 and earlier than initially planned. Previously, NotebookLM was only available on desktop since its debut in 2023. Now users can access its AI-powered note-taking and research features directly from their phones and tablets.
NotebookLM is designed to help users break down and understand complex information. It offers smart summaries, lets you ask questions about your documents, and even turns your research materials like PDFs, websites and YouTube video, into podcast-style audio summaries called Audio Overviews. These audio features support background playback and can be downloaded for offline listening, making it easy to learn on the go, whether you’re commuting or multitasking.
The app’s interface is straightforward and user-friendly. When you open it, you’ll see a homepage listing your notebooks, with filters for Recent, Shared, Title and Downloaded. Each notebook is displayed as a colorful card showing its name, emoji, number of sources, date, and a play button for Audio Overviews. There’s also a “Create new” button at the bottom. This allows the user to quickly add new sources like PDFs, websites, YouTube videos or text. If you’re browsing content on your device, you can use the share feature to send it straight to NotebookLM as a new source.

Inside each notebook, a bottom bar gives you access to your sources, a Chat Q&A for asking questions, and a Studio for organizing or editing your notes. The app automatically switches between light and dark mode based on your device’s settings, and it works on both phones and tablets, although it doesn’t fully utilize Google’s latest Material 3 design language.
A standout feature is the ability to interact with AI hosts during Audio Overviews. You can “join” the AI-generated podcast and ask follow-up questions or request further explanations, making the experience more interactive and tailored to your needs. This is especially helpful for students, professionals or anyone needing to digest complex topics quickly.
Google has also introduced NotebookLM Plus, a premium version aimed at businesses, schools and teams. It provides more Audio Overviews, additional notebooks and expanded collaboration features.
